Dustin Pedroia will be sporting some new cleats in 2010.
Pedroia has signed a multiyear endorsement deal with New Balance, a Brighton (Mass.)-based athletic shoe and apparel company.
Pedroia will wear camouflage spikes this season as well as off-field apparel provided by New Balance. The company also will partner with Pedroia to sponsor the Run to Home Base charity program the Red Sox are instituting.
"I have always been a fan of New Balance shoes for their great fit and comfort," Pedroia said in a press release distributed by New Balance. "They are the last company that still makes shoes in the United States, and that really impressed me."
Pedroia will don a special version of New Balance 1101 baseball cleats, made to incorporate camouflage colors, which he sports frequently. "The 1101 features high performance running technologies to eliminate spike pressure and give an athlete unparalleled comfort and fit on the diamond," the press release reads.
New Balance is the presenting sponsor of the Run to Home Base program, a 9K (5.6 mile) race taking place Sunday, May 23. Participants will walk or run from Massachusetts General Hospital to Fenway Park, crossing home plate upon completion. The event is to raise funds for improving the lives of military veterans returning from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
