Jets to ‘Host’ Giants in Preseason Opener at New Meadowlands Stadium

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The first football game in the new Meadowlands Stadium will be between the owners of the $1.6 billion facility.

The NFL announced on Wednesday that the Giants and Jets will play the first game on Aug. 16 when they meet on a Monday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

This is the second year in a row the Giants will open the preseason with a Monday night game. Last year, they defeated Carolina 24-14.

The Giants also will face Baltimore, New England and Pittsburgh in the preseason, with the games against the Steelers and Patriots also at the Giants' new home. Dates for those games have not been announced.

The Giants will play the first regular-season game in the new Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 12. The NFL will announce the schedule in April.
