UNICEF Rewards Celtics’ Haiti Relief Efforts

The Boston Celtics have captured more titles than any other NBA franchise, but the team may have received its greatest honor last week.

According to tonic.com, the Celtics Shamrock Foundation earned UNICEF Children's Champion Award for their Haiti relief efforts.

The foundation received the award in a ceremony held March 25 at the House of Blues in Boston. Celtics stars Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were among the celebrities to attend the event.

Celtics owners, players, staffers and fans worked with the Shamrock Foundation to raise $100,000 through in-game donations to help Haiti.

In addition, Celtics players and coach Doc Rivers created a public service announcement with the Celtics Women's Group encouraging fans to donate to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

The awards ceremony provided another opportunity to assist earthquake relief efforts as proceeds from the event supported UNICEF's programs for children in Haiti.

The Celtics join some elite company with the UNICEF honor. Past award recipients include Nelson Mandela and Audrey Hepburn.
