Brandon McGowan, Mike Wright Get Incentive-Based 2010 Pay Raises

Vince Wilfork may have gotten a huge raise this offseason, but he’s not the only member of the Patriots defense with a few extra dollars in his pocket.

According to ESPN.com, both Brandon McGowan and Mike Wright will nearly double their 2009 salaries thanks to incentives in their contracts from the past season.

McGowan’s base salary will be $1.33 million after being initially scheduled to earn $730,000. Wright’s 2010 salary will be $2.125 million, up from his original $1.2 million.

Both players have their agent, Buddy Baker, to thank for their carefully written contracts that earned them these raises.

McGowan was fourth on the team in tackles in 2009 with 66, including 12 that came on special teams. The safety played over 70 percent of the Pats’ defensive snaps, starting for much of the season before taking a backseat to the re-emerging James Sanders at the end of the year.

Wright played a key role in the defensive-line rotation, often spelling whoever needed a rest. Starting a few games at defensive end, Wright finished second on the team with five sacks and ninth in tackles with 48.
