Patriots Select Tight End Rob Gronkowski With 42nd Overall Pick

Tom Brady has a new target.

After trading up two spots with the Oakland Raiders, the New England Patriots selected tight end Rob Gronkowski from the University of Arizona.

Gronkowski has been long regarded as one of the elite receiving threats at the tight end position in college football. The tight end shattered numerous school records, but missed the entire 2009 season with a back injury that required surgery.

In two seasons at Arizona, Gronkowski amassed 75 receptions and 1,197 yards, inscribing himself into the Wildcats record books. He was a dangerous vertical threat. In his last full season, 24 of his 47 receptions went for at least 10 yards.

In addition to being a dangerous receiver, Gronkowski is regarded as a solid pass-blocker and run-blocker. He should contribute in all areas of the Patriots' offense.
