The U.S. World Cup team surprised many across the globe by playing heavily favored England to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, but a matchup on the pitch with the Brits must have seemed easy compared to an encounter with an elephant.
In fact, the U.S. squad was delayed twice by elephants on Friday, ABC News reports. The first time was when a bus carrying a handful of players on their way to a market was delayed. The U.S. national team was then stopped again when they were trying to make the trek to the Royal Bafekong Stadium for a training session.
But the elephant roadblock shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise to the American footballers. Just outside of the team’s hotel, a sign reads, “ELEPHANTS COME CLOSE TO OUR FENCE KEEP A DISTANCE OF 30 METERS AND PLEASE BE QUIET” and “BABOONS ARE DANGEROUS — PLEASE KEEP CLEAR OF THEM AND DO NOT FEED THEM.”
This only makes the Americans’ performance on Saturday that much more impressive, considering they have to deal with the constant threat of elephants and baboons.
But maybe the elephant the U.S. team met taught them a few tricks
