LeBron James Makes Late Appearance at Akron’s ‘LeBron Appreciation Day’

LeBron James arrived late to Akron’s 'LeBron Appreciation Day' celebration — along with 4,500 others.

The original estimate for the crowd at InfoCision Stadium was 4,000 people, but based on the number of T-Shirts given away, organizers are saying attendance reached 8,500, according to The Associated Press.

The intent of the event was to drum up support to keep James with the Cleveland Cavaliers next season.

James arrived as the event was winding down, causing some fans to re-enter to catch a glimpse of the King.

The two-time NBA MVP accepted a "Hometown Hero" award from the city and thanked the crowd, but made no comment about his impending free agency.

The NBA’s free agency period begins July 1.
