Partially Blind Golfer David Fox Celebrates First Hole-in-One

David Fox, 59, sunk his first hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Nudgee Golf Club in Queensland, Australia, four years after a golf ball cost him the sight in his left eye, the Courier-Mail reports.

Remarkably, Fox used the same rescue club as the one he swung when he blinded himself in 2006. Describing the accident, Fox said he dropped the ball too close to a solid wooden hazard marker, and it ricocheted back at his face.

"It split my eyeball like a tomato and I lost the lens and retina in the surgeries that followed," he told the Courier-Mail.

Despite the injury, Fox never contemplated giving up the game he loves.  In fact, he said he couldn't wait to get back on the course after losing his eye.

"I was never the person to moan 'Why me?' when I lost my eye, because I was lucky there was no more permanent damage," he said.

The hole-in-one, which Fox called "fantastic," caught him by surprise — he originally looked for the ball beyond the green before realizing what happened.

Once he recognized the accomplishment, a celebration ensued.

"You should have heard the noise. I'm sure they heard me all over the course," he laughed.
