A man has been charged with capital murder after allegedly beating his 2-year-old stepdaughter to death in McAllen, Texas during a World Cup game, The Associated Press reports.
Hector Castro, 27, told investigators that the toddler wouldn't stop crying while he was trying to watch the U.S.-Ghana matchup on Saturday, according to Police Chief Victor Rodriguez.
According to Rodriguez, the child was severely beaten and suffered several broken ribs. Police also say a bolt or screw was forced down her throat to apparently make it look like she choked to death.
Castro is being held at the Hidalgo County jail on a $1 million bond.
