Report: Felix Doubront to Start Friday’s Game Against Dodgers

The Red Sox are giving another kid a shot.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the Red Sox are planning to call up left-hander Felix Doubront for Friday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Doubront will being filling in for Daisuke Matsuzaka who landed on the disabled list with tightness in his right forearm Saturday, he will reportedly only miss one start.

Doubront, 22, went 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA in four starts with Triple-A Pawtucket. He started the season with Double-A Portland where he went 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA before being promoted.

Though manager Terry Francona did not confirm the move, he did hint to ESPN.com's Joe McDonald that the team would be calling up a starter.

"It's not going to be a bullpen day," he said. "It won't be Billy Hall."

Doubront, a native of Carabobo, Venezuela, brings a 91-94 mph fastball and very good changeup with screwball action, according to soxprospects.com.

The rookie will have his hands full as he will deal not only with the return of Manny Ramirez to Fenway Park, but also a Dodgers team that is eighth in the league in team batting average and is only 1/2 game out of the NL West lead.

Doubront's test will begin at 7:10 p.m., Friday night at Fenway Park.
