Shawn Thornton's tenure in Boston isn't over yet.
The Bruins' bruiser — who was set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 – has signed a two-year extension with the club, according to a source.
The Bruins are expected to make an announcement regarding the signing on Friday.
Thornton, who turns 33 in July, originally signed with Boston prior to the 2007-08 season. In three full seasons, he has played in 211 games, registering 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points with 338 penalty minutes. His best season came in 2008-09, when he registered 11 points and a minus-2 rating in 79 games.
Thornton also spent three seasons with the Blackhawks and one with the Ducks, where he earned a championship ring.
