Bill Belichick is always working, and this summer, his work included a bit of housekeeping.
According to Troy Brown, the embodiment of the Patriots' three Super Bowl championship teams, the Pats are removing photos of the championship seasons in Gillette Stadium.
"They are gutting out the whole place," Brown told Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com. "There are no pictures of Troy Brown, there are no pictures of Tedy Bruschi, no pictures of Rodney Harrison hanging up in the building. All the pictures [are] wiped off.
"[They're sending a message of] 'Get your own identity. Become who you are. You gotta get a name for yourselves. … Let's get our own identity now and become a solid football team.'"
While Brown seemed to understand the team's motives for trying to inspire the current players, he said he'll miss seeing his own face plastered on the walls.
"It doesn't sting to me at all," he said. "I hate that I walk into the building and my picture's not there anymore — that sucks."
Brown also added that the way in which the team responds to the message will determine the outcome of the upcoming season.
"That's gonna be the key to this year," he said. "Can those guys get their own identity and not worry about the players in the past did and how successful they were?"
