Red Sox Call Up Right-Handed Reliever Michael Bowden, Designate Gustavo Molina for Assignment

The Boston Red Sox called up right handed reliever Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, designating catcher Gustavo Molina for assignment in the process.

Bowden, rated as a top 100 prospect by Baseball America for three straight years, has previously been with the Red Sox in 2008 and 2009, going 2-1 in nine appearances in the process. This term, though, looks to be permanent.

A 2005 Red Sox first-round pick, Bowden has compiled a career 3.20 ERA in the minors, striking out 7.8 batters per nine innings.

The 23-year-old was 5-1 with a 1.40 ERA, holding opponents to a .156 average, since June 10 for the PawSox.
