Dustin Pedroia Missing Second Straight Game With Sore Left Foot

Dustin Pedroia was placed on the disabled list shortly before the Red Sox open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

Pedroia was originally in the lineup in Thursday's game against the Angels but was a late scratch due to pain in the foot that he had been feeling since the night before. Manager Terry Francona said late Thursday that Pedroia would see a doctor Friday if he still had soreness in the foot, which was broken June 25. The results obviously weren't good enough for Pedroia to continue playing, as he'll now take the next couple of weeks off to rest the foot.

Jed Lowrie
will take Pedroia's place for the second straight night and bat second.

Without Pedroia, the Sox still have a collection of hitters who will be happy to see Blue Jays lefty Brett Cecil on the mound. Aside from Lowrie, who has yet to face Cecil, the Boston starters are a combined 11-for-33 (.333) with four home runs vs. Cecil.

J.D. Drew has two of those homers. Drew is in the lineup despite batting just .174 vs. left-handers this year. He had been given the last two games off when a southpaw was on the mound.

Here is the complete Red Sox lineup:

1. Marco Scutaro, SS
2. Jed Lowrie, 2B
3. Victor Martinez, C
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Adrian Beltre, 3B
6. Mike Lowell, 1B
7. J.D. Drew, RF
8. Bill Hall, LF
9. Darnell McDonald, CF
