Mike Cameron Doesn’t Expect to Return in 2010

The biggest shakeup of the offseason for the Boston Red Sox was the signing of veteran Mike Cameron and the subsequent shift of Jacoby Ellsbury from center to left field. With 42 games left in the season, it's safe to say that nothing's gone according to plan.

Ellsbury is reportedly done for the season, and so is Cameron.

Cameron told ESPN.com that the best level he could probably play at would be 65 percent.

"From the aspect of looking at the baseball club, I don’t feel like it would be as helpful to the team to try to be a hero," Cameron told the website.

The 37-year-old outfielder has played through pain all year, though he was finally placed on the disabled list on Aug. 2. He had been postponing surgery on his torn abdominal muscle until after the season, but he said he's now planning on getting it done as soon as possible so that he'll be ready for spring training.
