Patriots Host Light Practice With Saints, Re-Sign Running Back Thomas Clayton

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots and Saints held their third and final practice together at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday morning, and it was a light-speed session between two teams that got after it the day before.

Before practice, the Patriots made a minor roster move, re-signing running back Thomas Clayton and releasing guard Darnell Stapleton.

Otherwise, the Patriots had the same attendance report as both sessions Tuesday. Wide receiver Torry Holt, wide receiver Matthew Slater, cornerback Leigh Bodden, linebacker Gary Guyton, cornerback Terrence Johnson and defensive lineman Ron Brace watched practice from the sideline.

Offensive lineman Nick Kaczur, defensive lineman Ty Warren, safety Bret Lockett, outside linebacker Derrick Burgess, left guard Logan Mankins and defensive back Josh Barrett weren’t in attendance.

It was a slow practice with minimal contact after a long day Tuesday. The teams meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for the preseason opener at Gillette Stadium.
