Red Sox Set Sights on First Four-Game Win Streak Since June

The Red Sox will try to win their fourth straight game for the first time since mid-June when they host the Seattle Mariners again on Tuesday night.

With a 6-3 victory in the series opener on a rainy Monday, Boston has won three straight games and is now 5-2 on a critical nine-game homestand. The last time the Sox strung together four victories in a row was when they recorded back-to-back three-game sweeps against Arizona and the Los Angeles Dodgers from June 15-20.

The last time they won four straight against American League teams was May 29-June 2.

Josh Beckett, who is winless in his last three starts, makes his seventh appearance for Boston since coming off the disabled list last month. Former Red Sox pitcher David Pauley goes for Seattle.

PITCHING MATCHUP

RHP David Pauley (2-4, 3.70 ERA) vs. RHP Josh Beckett (3-3, 3.67 ERA)

It's about time Beckett puts together a solid start. He is 0-2 with a 10.69 ERA in his last three starts and will be facing the worst offense in the American League.

Beckett's comeback from a lower back strain began six starts ago in Seattle, where he allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings of a 2-1 win over the M's. He is 4-1 with a 2.93 ERA in six career starts against Seattle in his career.

Pauley, who made nine appearances with the Red Sox between 2006 and 2008, picked up his first career win two starts ago and his second career win six days ago in Baltimore. The 27-year-old yielded one run in 5 2/3 innings opposite Jon Lester on July 24, a game the M's rallied to win 5-1.

OUTLOOK

All eyes are on Beckett, whose ability to command his fastball and get on a roll would seem to be imperative if the Red Sox are going to make a push in September. He gets to face lowly Seattle at a perfect time.
