Report: Cliff Lee, Colin Cowherd in War of Words Over Potential Move to Yankees

Colin Cowherd doesn't think that Cliff Lee knows he's in the midst of a pennant race.

In fact, Cowherd says Lee's playing for the Texas Rangers like he's Ricky Davis in the second quarter against the T-Wolves — he's "mailing it in," reports the New York Post.

"That is a dude that gets out of town the second the season ends," Cowherd also said. "He'll get out of town, go to the Yankees and jettison the Rangers… He wanted to be a Yankee. He doesn't like Texas," he continued. "He doesn't pitch well in the heat. I'm told he will not re-sign with Texas. He wants to be with an elite team."

Apparently, having the largest division lead in baseball doesn't make you an "elite team" in Cowherd's book.

Lee was understandably angry with Cowherd's words.

"It's a lie," he responded. "Write that. Are you writing? Write that it's a lie. I did not say that and nobody close to me would say that. Either say who the source is or shut up because I am saying it is not true."

The Rangers ace will be a free agent after the 2010 season.
