For over 75 years, Bostonians haven't had to go far to enjoy a day at the races.
Suffolk Downs opened its gates in East Boston, Mass., in 1935, with 35,000 race fans in attendance for opening day. Since then, the track has seen many famous horses sprint around the thoroughbred racetrack, including
Seabiscuit.
But horses haven't been the only attraction, as on Aug. 18, 1966, the Beatles took the stage for a historic performance — one of their last official concerts as a group. Over 25,000 fans packed the track to witness what would prove to be the Beatles’ final Boston appearance.
Do you know how long the Suffolk Downs racetrack is? Here's a hint: it's the same length as Pimlico, where the Preakness Stakes is held.
