Danny Woodhead Finds End Zone, Makes Strong First Impression With Patriots

FOXBORO, Mass. — Danny Woodhead walks small and talks with genuine politeness. But Sunday against the Bills, he ran like a maniac during his limited playing time.

Woodhead, a third-year running back who was acquired last week by the Patriots, made his first career start, scored his first career touchdown and carried three times for a career-high 42 yards.

“More than anything, it’s good to help the team out,” said Woodhead, who is very generously listed at 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds. “I’m not so concerned with getting my touchdown. I’m more concerned with getting the victory.”

Woodhead took the hand-off from Tom Brady and shot through the line toward the right side of the field. Once he got to the second layer of the defense, the shifty back from Chadron State cut hard to the left to burn Buffalo’s defenders. It was such a quick move that he basically jogged much of those 22 yards into the end zone.

“The linemen made great blocks,” Woodhead said. “I did the easy part. … You can’t ask for better blocking as a running back, and all I did is do my job.”
