Dwight Howard Grants Final Wish of Dying Orlando Magic Fan

Three weeks ago, Arian Clute contacted the Orlando Magic with a request. Her mother, Kay Kellogg, was dying with cancer and her final wish was to meet Magic center Dwight Howard.

Kellogg, 62, suffers from stage 3 multiple myeloma, an inoperable and incurable cancer. Her dying request was to meet the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, who is also her favorite player. The Magic scheduled a half-hour meeting between Kellogg and Howard, but Howard ended up staying to talk with her for several hours.

"Dwight Howard is just such a precious, wonderful kid," Kellogg told the Orlando Sentinel. "Whenever I watch him play, he just makes me feel good inside."

She had just finished yet another round of chemotherapy — battling the aggressive cancer that destroys blood plasma in bone marrow — when the surprise visitor showed up at her apartment.

"He has become my 7-foot-tall bottle of medicine," Kellogg said.

Howard insists he felt just as privileged to meet Kellogg, and just before he was leaving the two-hour visit, he had to ask why meeting him was at the top of Kellogg's bucket list.

"Because some people get a choir that sings them into heaven and some people get a chariot that rolls them into heaven," Kellogg told him. "Not me. I want to be slam-dunked smack, dab into the middle of heaven by Dwight Howard."

Now that's magic.
