Jay-Z, Eminem, Friends Hit Home Run With Historic Concert at Yankee Stadium

The Yankees might be scuffling down the stretch, but Yankee Stadium still is rocking.

Two of hip-hop’s biggest stars, Jay-Z and Eminem, performed for a sold-out crowd in the Bronx on Monday, making the first concert at the new Yankee Stadium an epic one, Forbes.com reports. And while the two rappers caused quite a stir by themselves, they also brought an all-star ensemble to the stage.

Eminem performed first, along with his group D-12, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and breakout star B.o.B. During the middle of his performance, Eminem took some time to reflect on his musical comeback. His album “Recovery,” the top-selling CD of the year, recalls his drug addiction and his battle to overcome the problem.

“I missed you [expletives], did you miss me?” he asked the crowd. “It feels so good to be back.”

Eminem also acknowledged the significance of the concert’s location.

“Do not think that I don’t know where I’m at right now,” he told the audience. “I’m also honored to be on this [expletive] stage in the Bronx, the [expletive] birthplace of hip-hop.”

After Eminem’s set, Jay-Z took to the stage with even more firepower, including his wife, Beyonce, Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Jay-Z showed his range, performing classics such as “Hard Knock Life” and “99 Problems.” Jay-Z also teamed up with Martin for “In the Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love),” and in a creative twist, the pair sang Coldplay’s “Clocks.”

Jay-Z and Eminem then pleased the crowd with their joint song “Renegade.” The concert extended past midnight, and toward the end, Jay-Z proclaimed, “This is historic. They ain’t never gonna be another night like tonight.”

Hopefully for those attending Tuesday night’s concert, Jay-Z will go back on his word.
