Report: Marc Savard’s Contract No Longer Being Probed by NHL

Ilya Kovalchuk‘s 15-year contract finally was approved on Friday, and that’s actually good news for the Boston Bruins.

Along with giving the deal the go-ahead, the NHL also came to terms with the NHLPA on how to treat long-term deals under the salary cap and decided todrop its probes of the Marc Savard, Chris Pronger, Marian Hossa and Roberto Luongo deals, ESPN.com reports.

The new rule regarding long-term deals has the following stipulations:

• The salary-cap hit of any deal longer than five years will now be equal to his average salary until age 40.
• All years after 40 will be recalculated based on the contract.

After a week of speculation, it appears that both the Savard contract issues and trade rumors have come to happy conclusions.
