Christian Purslow's actions in fighting Tom Hicks and George Gillett were integral to NESV's takeover of Liverpool FC.

Still, following the sale, he has left the post of managing director of the club just 16 months after taking over.

Former Liverpool Boss Rafa Benitez has said that it was Purslow's arrival that marked the beginning of the club's downward spiral.

Purslow, however, will stay on board as a non-executive director and an adviser to the new owners.

"We are delighted Christian has accepted our offer to help us and the club, given his great experience and love for Liverpool FC. We will now begin a global search process for a chief executive officer," said Tom Werner of NESV.

Purslow has responded to the news graciously.

"I came to LFC to lead the club through a sale process to get the best overall deal including, vitally, the removal of the debt," Purslow said. "I am immensely proud of what we have all achieved. I now look forward to assisting the owners in any way I can at this exciting time as they drive the club forward to a bright future."

Liverpool next faces Napoli in Europa League action on Thursday.
