Former 49ers Running Back Glen Coffee Arrested for Carrying Concealed Weapon

What kind of religious calling requires a cocked pistol in the center console?

Apparently one that also involves driving a vehicle that's not registered or insured, as former San Francisco 49ers running back Glen Coffee has been arrested for illegally carrying an automatic pistol in his 2008 Cadillac, TMZ reports.

Coffee was pulled over in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Thursday with the pistol in the cocked position, readily available in the center console. He was initially pulled over for speeding, followed by an inspection that revealed the vehicle was uninsured with no registration — and there was a concealed weapon next to the cup holders.

Coffee retired from the game back in August due to a religious calling, as he told reporters "God told me a long time ago to walk away from the game." The up-and-comer was just 23 years old at the time of the retirement, and the decision left his teammates stunned.

In an interview with the Sacramento Bee following his retirement, Coffee said he "never should have entered the draft," and ultimately was "wasting the San Francisco 49ers time." Coffee rushed for 226 yards and one touchdown on 83 carries in his rookie season.

Coffee was booked at a nearby police station, and has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm, which is a third-degree felony.
