The locker room gun incident has been well documented. Now, the man who once was the face of the Washington Wizards is making bad headlines again.
Arenas was fined for faking an injury to supposedly help teammate Nick Young get more playing time. And even though that sounds like something a good teammate would do, in reality, it’s not what Wizards fans want to hear about their star player — who missed most of last season due to his own stupidity.
Guys like Arenas are all over the sports world. They are distractions from the games, yet they are directly involved in them. And they come in all forms.
Brett Favre certainly didn’t put anyone in physical danger by bearing arms in a locker room, but he’s arguably been the biggest distraction in sports for the past three years — simply because of his indecision about whether or not he wants to play. And, of course, there’s that Jenn Sterger thing.
There are plenty of guys who get paid millions of dollars to be professional athletes, but they don’t act like professionals. It can be light-hearted or even funny at first, but in the long run, fans want to see athletes perform on the field — not as a sideshow act.
