Joe Colborne, Ryan Spooner Holding Strong Atop Top 10 Bruins Prospects List

With the season just getting under way, it’s a little early for much movement in the Bruins’ prospect rankings. So even with a quiet first weekend in the AHL, Joe Colborne retains the top spot. Down in the OHL, Ryan Spooner and Jared Knight have been anything but quiet, however, and could soon be pushing for the top spot.

There could soon be some shuffling at the back end of the top 10 as well. A bigger sample size will be needed to drop anyone out of the top 10, but there are a few guys making a case to crack this list.

Knocking on the door is Boston University defenseman David Warsofsky, who earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors after the junior blueliner collected two goals and three assists in wins over Wisconsin and Notre Dame as the Terriers won the Ice Breaker Tournament on St. Louis. Size will always be an issue for the 5-foot-8, 170-pound Warsofsky, but there’s little doubting the skill.

At the other end of the spectrum is Providence forward Lane MacDermid. He’s got plenty of size and toughness at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, but the question with him is if he has the skill level to make an impact at the NHL level. MacDermid is still a work in progress, but he’s off to a good start this season with two assists and a plus-1 rating in two games.

That included a beautiful feed to Kirk MacDonald to set up a short-handed goal in Providence’s opener. MacDermid hasn’t forgotten his primary duties either, as he pounded out a decision over Springfield heavyweight Kyle Neuber that same night.

So with the knowledge that there are plenty of other prospects close to cracking the top 10, how do the Bruins’ top prospects stack up this week?
