NESN Vault Commemorates New England Legend Doug Flutie’s Birthday

In this first edition of NESN Vault, we celebrate the 48th birthday of Doug Flutie.

Every week, NESN Vault will take a look back in time at events that still have an impact. For the week of Oct. 18-24, we’re bringing back video of Doug Flutie’s early days, as he was born on Oct. 23, 1962.

Flutie was born in Maryland and moved to Florida at age 6. When he was 14, Flutie moved to Natick, Mass., where he starred at Natick High School in football, basketball and baseball.

Flutie then went to Boston College where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1984. After college, Flutie bounced around professional football. He began in the USFL, then went to the NFL, CFL and back to the NFL, where he retired as a member of the New England Patriots.

Today, Flutie broadcasts for the UFL on Versus. He immerses himself in charity work as well, specifically with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, named in honor of his autistic son.
