Report: DeSean Jackson Has Severe Concussion, Playing Status Unknown

Fining millionaires clearly doesn’t cut it as a form of punishment in the NFL and Atlanta’s Dunta Robinson‘s hit on Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson on Sunday may prove to be the single moment that enhances the severity of penalties for high hits.

According to Jay Glazer, Jackson suffered a severe concussion and has memory loss. His playing status going forward is unknown, as head coach Andy Reid wouldn’t even estimate when he would be able to return. Chances are, he won’t be on the field next week against the Tennessee Titans.

Jackson’s teammates reacted with horror to the hit.

“That was scary,” Jeremy Maclin said.

“I just felt so bad,” added quarterback Kevin Kolb. “I’m part of the play, and I never saw the guy.” 

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie thinks that rules changes need to occur.

“It’s not something that should be in the game. It should be legislated out of the game … Every offseason we’ve got to make it the highest priority and we do. It’s just, ‘How far do we go?’ We’ve got to go even further than we have,” he told USA Today.

Jackson suffered a concussion last season against Washington, which resulted in him missing one game. Robinson, the culprit who was flagged 15 yards on the play, also suffered a concussion, but he appears to be recovering quickly.
