The Ponzi scheme strikes again, and for once, the Mets aren’t the butt of the joke.
The Denver Post is reporting that John Elway was among 65 investors named in a criminal case against former hedge-fund manager Sean Mueller of Cherry Hills Village.
The former Broncos quarterback has not disclosed how much he lost. Elway's agent and spokesman, Jeff Sperbeck, declined comment.
An affidavit filed by the DA’s office reveals the parties involved had invested roughly $71 million since 2000 with Mueller and his company, Mueller Capital Management.
A warrant has been issued for Mueller’s arrest and arrangements are being made for him to surrender. Arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning and bail has been set at $2 million.
Mueller is said to be cooperating with authorities.
Other parties who invested with Mueller include Janus Fund manager Blaine Rollins, several company owners and a corporate chief executive.
