Report: Liverpool Interested in Spanish Striker Fernando Llorente

Liverpool is looking to add some punch to its offense, and according to some reports, have eyes for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.

The Liverpool offense has netted just seven goals through their first eight games of the 2010-2011 season, and have gotten off to a 1-3-4 start. According to a report by IMScouting.com, “multiple reports” state the Reds would like the 25-year-old Llorente to help boost their struggling attack.

Llorente, who plays for both Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team, has impressed lately, netting four goals in his last three games between the two teams. He’s especially good at using his size and scoring with his head, as four of his six national goals have come via headers.

Llorente’s contract runs through the 2012-2013 season, but it’s unlikely that Liverpool wants to wait that long before acquiring his services. Instead, they may look to acquire him during the January transfer window.

Llorente would be a perfect fit for LFC, but they’ll face stiff competition if they attempt to acquire him. Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid also have interest in the 6-foot-5, 200 pound striker, and may be able to offer a more enticing financial package for his services.
