The Steelers placed quarterback Dennis Dixon on the injured reserve list Saturday, ending his season after just two games.

Dixon, who entered the season as the Steelers’ first string quarterback thanks to Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension, tore his meniscus during Pittsburgh’s Week 2 victory against the Titans. He was originally slated to miss only two or three weeks, but now is scheduled to miss at least six weeks following a recent surgery.

A third-year player out of the University of Oregon, Dixon threw for 254 yards, rushed for 34 yards, and threw one interception in his two starts.

A very mobile quarterback, Dixon could have been of use against the Ravens’ blitz-happy defense in the Steelers upcoming game against Baltimore this Sunday.

Instead, Dixon’s injury means the Steelers will move forward with Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwhich, and receiver Antwaan Randle El as their only quarterback options until Roethlisberger returns in Week 5.

Dixon is set to become a restricted free agent after the season.
