The Bruins needed a little help from some newcomers and oldtimers on Sunday to pick up their first win of the season.
Goals from rookie Tyler Seguin, newcomer Nathan Horton and bruiser Milan Lucic paced the offense, and the B’s defense blanked the Coyotes to record what Boston fans hope will be the first of many regular-season wins.
Veteran netminder Tim Thomas was solid between the pipes as the former Vezina winner kicked aside 29 shots to pick up his 18th career shutout and 127th career win.
Seguin, the team’s prized 18-year-old center, sealed the victory with a breakaway goal at 9:14 in the third in his second NHL game. Teammate Mark Recchi, who was in his fourth NHL season when Seguin was born in 1992, made a beeline to the net to grab the puck after the youngster’s first career tally.
“It’s always fun to see these guys score their first goal,” head coach Claude Julien told The Associated Press.
