Report: Adrian Beltre Denies Red Sox’ $10 Million Option, Officially Becomes Free Agent

Third baseman Adrian Beltre had a career year in 2010, and he’s going to see what he can make of it in the free-agent pool this offseason.

On Wednesday, Beltre denied the Red Sox’ $10 million option, according to the Boston Globe, among other reports.

Because he reached 640 plate appearances (he finished with 641), Beltre’s option was bumped from $5 million to $10 million. But as expected, he denied the option and will likely get much more money while teams fight for him in a bidding war.

Beltre finished with a .321 batting average and added 49 doubles, 28 home runs and 102 RBIs.
