Report: Carl Crawford, Jayson Werth Won’t Be on Yankees’ Radar This Offseason

Who will the free-spending Yankees look to overpay this offseason?

It’s not always about what the Yankees what, or even what they need. The club has occasionalyl signed players they don’t need just to one-up the competition and, well, because they can.

According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees won’t be in on either the Carl Crawford or Jayson Werth sweepstakes and will instead be focusing on pitcher Cliff Lee.

Contrary to years past, the Bombers believe they have a solid enough outfield without adding available superstars to the mix.

After a career year from Brett Gardner, the resurgence of Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher’s surprising consistency, the Yankees trust their outfield is set heading into 2011.

"Unless they parted with one of those guys, I'm not sure where [Crawford or Werth] would fit," the source told the Daily News.

Both Crawford and Werth are expected to command a contract of around $15 million per season over four to eight years.

"We are better with Crawford, but at that price? I'm not sure it's that good of an upgrade," a Yankees source told the newspaper.

Those close to Crawford believe the speedster may be reluctant to play in a city like New York because of all the pressure from the media and fans. Despite this knowledge, analysts are predicting Crawford will sign with either the Angels or the Red Sox.
