Ryan Spooner Back to Top of Bruins’ Prospects List As Joe Colborne Struggles Through Tough Week

The change of scenery has done wonders for Ryan Spooner.

It's not as if the Bruins' prospect was exactly struggling in Peterborough, but the Petes were languishing at the bottom of the Ontario Hockey League's East Division when Spooner asked for a trade to a contender last week. He got his wish with a deal to powerhouse Kingston, and Spooner wasted no time fitting in with his new club.

Spooner picked up an assist on the first goal of the game just 6:02 into the first period of his debut, and later added a goal for the Frontenacs in a 5-3 win over Sault Ste. Marie last Friday. Spooner then added another assist and scored the game-winning goal in overtime in a 6-5 victory over Sarnia on Sunday.

With Joe Colborne struggling through a tough week in Providence, Spooner's big splash in Kingston is enough for him to regain the top spot in the prospect rankings this week.

But who else is on the move in the top 10 this week?

  Last week: No. 2 Ryan Spooner, C

  Spooner began his stay in Kingston with 2-2-4 totals in two games, pushing his overall OHL totals to 12-11-23 in 16 games so far this year. He was also named to Team OHL and played against a visiting Russian squad in the Subway Select Series. Spooner didn't have a point, but Team OHL took a 2-1 win in a shootout on Monday.

  Last week: No. 1 Joe Colbourne, C

  After breaking out last week with four goals and an assist in three games, Colborne had a rough weekend this time around. No goals and just one assist with a minus-6 rating in three games wasn't exactly the encore the 2008 first-rounder had in mind. Colborne managed just one shot in the three games, but is still a solid 5-6-11 with 27 shots in 15 games this season.

  Last week: No. 3 Jared Knight, C/RW

  Knight is back on a point-a-game pace after putting up 1-3-4 totals in two games this week. All four points came in London's 8-2 rout of Barrie last Friday, with the goal and two of the assists coming on the power play. Knight now has 7-12-19 totals and a plus-5 rating in 19 games this season.

  Last week: No. 5  Matt Bartkowski, D

  Bartkowski scored his first professional goal last Friday, then added his second on Saturday as he racked up 10 shots in the two games. He couldn't extend the streak to three games on Sunday, but still improved his totals to 2-4-6 in 13 games, though he remains a minus-1 on the season.

  Last week: No. 8 Yuri Alexandrov, D

  Alexandrov continued his steady improvement this past week as he collected a pair of goals in three games. For the season, he now has 4-4-8 totals and is a plus-1 in 15 games. He did take a pair of interference penalties over the weekend though, as he continues making adjustments to the smaller ice surface in North America.

  Last week: No. 4 Steve Kampfer, D

  Kampfer's weekend started slow with no points, no shots and a minus-1 in a 5-2 loss to Abbotsford on Friday, but he bounced back with five shots, an assist and a plus-3 rating as Providence beat Manchester 3-1 and edged Abbotsford 5-4 in a shootout in the rematch. Kampfer now has 2-9-11 totals and is a plus-5 in 15 games, but will miss Friday's game against Bridgeport after being suspended one game for an elbow in the first Abbotsford contest.

  Last week: No. 6 Max Sauve, C/LW

  Sauve remains out with an injury to his left wrist. He has missed 11 games and is expected to be out this weekend again, but could return next weekend. Sauve had 3-1-4 totals and was a plus-1 in four games before the injury.

  Last week: No. 7 Jamie Arniel, C

  Arniel returned to Providence after a brief call-up to the big club, though he didn't dress for Boston. Arniel didn't seem too discouraged by the quick return to the minors, as he collected 1-2-3 totals in three games this week. He was a minus-2 and missed on his shootout attempt in Sunday's win, but does now have 7-5-12 totals and 49 shots in 15 games.

  Last week: No. 9 Ryan Button, D

  Button may want to follow Spooner's lead and demand a deal, as the tough times continued in Prince Albert with two more losses. The Raiders have now lost four straight, 11 of the last 12 and stand at 6-12-2-2 on the year. Button did pick up an assist and was only a minus-2 despite the fact that the Raiders were outscored 11-4 for the week. Button now has 0-8-8 totals and is a minus-2 with 13 penalty minutes in 22 games this season. The minus-2 isn't bad on a club that has scored just 66 goals and allowed 92, including being outscored 61-30 in the last 12 games.

  Last week: No. 10 Craig Cunningham, C
  Cunningham's Giants had just one game this week, but the playmaking center still managed to add another point to his totals with an assist in Vancouver's 3-2 loss to Prince George. Cunningham now has 8-32-40 totals and is a plus-14 with 20 PIMs in 23 games.
