Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Heckles Baron Davis From Courtside Seat

The book on Baron Davis has pretty much been written at this point in his career. He has the talent of an elite NBA point guard, but is prone to be out of shape, selfish and checked-out mentally.

Those characteristics have surely been on display thus far this season, leading to all sorts of criticism and even trade rumors — particularly given the emergence of Eric Bledsoe. Apparently, even Clippers owner Donald Sterling is joining in the heckling.

Sitting courtside at home games, the equally often-criticized owner has apparently been giving Davis a piece of his mind, according to Yahoo Sports.

Sterling was reportedly screaming the following:

• “Why are you in the game?”

• “Why did you take that shot?”

• “You’re out of shape!”

Davis joined the Clippers in 2008 with a five-year deal — one which has $42 million remaining, making him virtually immovable — and has been a disappointment since.

Still, he is trying to stay positive, and was hoping to turn things around this year.

“There’s nothing I can say,” Davis said of Sterling’s taunts. “I have no comment on that. You just get to this point where it’s a fight every day. It’s a fight. You’re fighting unnecessary battles. I’m fighting unnecessary battles.

“It’s frustrating because I know and my teammates know I’m capable of getting it done, even dudes on the other team. It’s frustrating,” he continued.

Sterling, who is known to have done this to multiple of his players, downplayed the incidents.

“When they make shots, it’s great,” Sterling said during halftime of the Clippers’ loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday. “When they don’t, we’re all disappointed.”

A source close to the situation says that Sterling “hates Baron” and that he “wants his money back.”

Sterling, however, said of Davis: “What can I say? I wish the best for all my players.”
