Donovan McNabb Benched, Rex Grossman to Start for Mike Shanahan’s Redskins

Earlier this season, when Mike Shanahan took Donovan McNabb out of a game in the final minutes, he had trouble explaining his decision. This time, it's going to be even harder.

According to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, Shanahan has benched McNabb in favor of Rex Grossman for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

"Players are upset by the move," La Canfora wrote.

The players, according to the report, feel Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator who is the son of the head coach, is using McNabb as a "scapegoat."

It's the latest chapter in a tumultuous season in the nation's capital. The drama surrounding Albert Haynseworth lasted the duration of the season, only calming down last week when the $100 million man was suspended for the final four games of the season.

As a team, the Redskins have no hope for the playoffs, but from an individual perspective, McNabb now has to wonder about his own future. He signed an extension earlier this season, but it included a clause that would allow the 'Skins to cut him in the upcoming offseason.
