Rex Ryan Buries Game Ball From Embarrassing Loss to Bill Belichick, Patriots

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Rex Ryan has buried the New York Jets' embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots.

Literally.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis says Wednesday that the coach led the team out to the practice field before its morning meeting, took a game ball from the 45-3 rout Monday night and placed it in a freshly dug hole. Revis says the team didn't know what Ryan was going to do when he brought the team outside, and that he's never seen anything like that.

Ryan didn't mention the ball burial in his news conference Wednesday, but said his message to the Jets (9-3) was that it's "full steam ahead" toward their game Sunday against Miami (6-6).

Patriots coach Bill Belichick also did something similar after a loss to the Dolphins in 2001.
