The Internet community had been particularly active in calls to remove Roy Hodgson as Liverpool manager over the course of his six-month stint at Anfield.
Accordingly, it should come as no surprise that Kenny Dalglish's name vaulted to the top of the world's Twitter trends when he was appointed as caretaker manager at Anfield on Saturday morning.
"'Good luck King Kenny!!" former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso tweeted.
Alonso, though, was far from the only voice offering support for the former Liverpool star and manager.
"Welcome Kenny Dalglish, bring the glory back to anfield. I believe you can do it," tweeted one fan.
"KENNY DALGLISH our new coach!!!" wrote another.
""Kenny Dalglish is a hero of mine and is the best player to ever wear a red shirt." Steven Gerrard #YNWA," tweeted IndoStevieG.
"Good to think that all around the world Reds are still waking up to find Kenny Dalglish has replaced Roy Hodgson," tweeted Jim Boardman of Anfield Road.
Many of the tweets, as expected, were as negative about Hodsgson as they were positive about Dalglish.
"Kenny Dalglish. Manager. Liverpool FC. Roy Hodgson. Out. What this means: … SO THERE IS A GOD AFTER ALL! :))" said one fan.
"Apparently Roy Hodgson has just been voted the worst pool manager since Michael Barrymore," said another.
Hodgson was a trending topic in Boston, though not the United Kingdom.
Some of the tweets, also as expected, offered the new manager a little advice.
"liverpools very own son kenny dalglish we hail you!!! All the best king kenny and please let's get suarez in up with Torres," one suggested.
Whether or not Dalglish continues to be the darling of Twitter, though, will be decided by Liverpool's results and decisions looming in the coming days, weeks and months.
