Report: Jamie Langenbrunner Trade to Dallas Stars for Conditional Draft Pick Finalized

A longtime Devils forward is heading back to where his NHL career began.

The New Jersey Devils have agreed to trade veteran winger Jamie Langenbrunner to the Dallas Stars, according to ESPN.com.

The report says the Devils will receive a conditional third-round draft pick, which could become a second-round pick if the Stars can manage to re-sign Langenbrunner before July 1 or win a playoff series.

It’s believed that teams such as Philadelphia may have offered more in return for the 35-year old, but Langenbrunner’s no-trade clause limited the Devils’ options, according to nj.com.

Langenbrunner has remained close friends with former teammate and current Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk.

Langenbrunner is earning $2.8 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The cellar-dwelling Devils are expected to continue to be active in trying to clear cap space and rebuild.

The Devils, who lost to the Flyers on Thursday night without Langenbrunner, have dropped three straight.
