Report: Nick Green Agrees to Minor League Deal With Orioles, Gets Invite to Spring Training

Nick Green could return to the AL East.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the former Red Sox utility infielder has agreed to a minor league contract with the Orioles. The deal includes an invitation to spring training.

The 32-year old journeyman split time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres organizations during the 2010 season. He played 14 games in the majors and 69 in the minors.

Red Sox fans can remember Green as a scrappy player who contributed to the club any way he could in 2009, redefining the word "utility." Green pitched two innings of scoreless relief against the Chicago White Sox during his stint in Boston.

Green is a long shot to make Baltimore’s Opening Day roster. The Sun reports that Cesar Izturis is already No. 1 on the utility depth chart, so Green will have to impress manager Buck Showalter and beat out Brendan Harris and Robert Andino to win a potential job with the Birds.
