It would have been a thrill ride if a camera crew had followed the Red Sox and produced a Hard Knocks-type series during the 2004 world championship season. Keeping up with the team's "Cowboy Up" antics through a season that culminated with the breaking of an 86-year-old curse would have been the epitome of entertainment in Boston.
Unfortunately, baseball fans missed out on that opportunity in 2004, but they may have the chance to follow the exciting journey of the 2010 world champion, the San Francisco Giants. According to EW.com, television and movie producer Mike Tollin is in early talks with Showtime to do a docuseries that focuses on the Giants and the events leading up to their World Series victory.
Tollin is very familiar with the world of sports. The longtime producer's work has recently appeared on ESPN's 30 for 30 series, and he helped produce Bonds on Bonds, an ESPN docuseries that followed the outfielder from spring training through the regular season. Tollin also had a hand in several popular sports movies, including Coach Carter, Hardball, Summer Catch and Varsity Blues.
Though Showtime has extensive sports programming, this would be the first series that follows one team in a documentary format, similar to HBO's Hard Knocks and 24-7.
