Roy Hodgson’s Pre-Match News Conference Canceled, Leading to Further Speculation for Liverpool Manager

Speculation is mounting over the future of Roy Hodgson as the manager of Liverpool .

The club called off his regular pre-match conference with the media for Friday, just two-hours before he was scheduled to go on, according to USA Today.

“Due to the media speculation surrounding the club, it was decided that a formal press conference was not appropriate in the circumstances,” a Liverpool spokesman said.

Hodgson, 63, has been widely reported by the British media to be his the way out after Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Blackburn brought his total losses to nine since succeeding Rafa Benitez in July.

“I am not prepared to talk about my future,” Hodgson told USA Today after the loss. “At this moment, I am depressed enough with the performance and the result. I am not here to talk about that. I have no comments to make and I don’t intend to answer any questions on the subject.”

Hodgson ended that news conference after just three questions.

Rather than a meeting with the media, the team will instead air a recorded interview with Hodgson that will be broadcast from the club’s website.

Liverpool finds itself just four points above the relegation zone in 12th place. The club travels to Manchester United (whom it trails by 19 points) for the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
