Deadspin released a report on Friday alleging that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had sexual relations with a 17-year-old. While the article gave no proof, only giving a letter from the girl’s lawyer and saying that details would come on Tuesday, the post has been enough to prompt a statement from the Jets.
That statement, though, couldn’t have been more succinct.
“We are not going to discuss Mark’s private life,” wrote Jets spokesman Bruce Speight.
The Deadspin reports alleges that the girl, named only as E.K., gave Deadspin photos taken from Sanchez’s bedroom after she spent the night with him a few weeks ago.
The article, though, downplays the gravity of the evidence, and the statement from her lawyer denies the allegations entirely.
Deadspin has proved to be a somewhat reliable source in the past, breaking the Jenn Sterger-Brett Favre story, among others.
Even if Sanchez did have sexual relations with the 17-year-old, such would have been perfectly legal under statutory rape laws in New York and New Jersey, provided the relations were consensual.
