Former Liverpool Chairman Martin Broughton to Sue Tom Hicks, George Gillett Jr. for Defamation

It doesn't look like Tom Hicks is going to get what he wants after all, and former Liverpool chairman Sir Martin Broughton will make sure of it.

According to ESPN.com, Broughton is the latest person to join a rash of lawsuits being filed in the case of the sale of the Liverpool soccer club to New England Sports Ventures. Broughton announced that he plans to sue Hicks and business partner George Gillett Jr. for defamation, claiming no shady behavior took place with the sale of the club.

Broughton added that the suit is not about money.

"I am suing to have my name cleared, not for any money," he told the Times. "They made accusations of fraud and conspiracy which were wholly unfounded. I am not losing any sleep. I know I acted properly.''

On Thursday, the High Court ruled that Hicks could not begin a lawsuit against NESV in the United States without it being tied to rulings previously started in the United Kingdom.
