Legedu Naanee Pepper-Sprayed for Resisting Arrest in Indianapolis

Legedu Naanee did himself a disservice this past weekend, adding the "character issues" label to his profile as he prepares to become a free agent whenever a new collective-bargaining agreement is agreed to by the NFL and NFLPA.

According to the San Diego Tribune, Naanee was arrested early Saturday in Indianapolis for public intoxication, but it was his resistance, not his drunkenness that earned him his Miranda rights.

Naanee stumbled upon an active crime scene at around 3 a.m., at which point he was repeatedly asked to leave by the authorities.

When asked to leave, Naanee asked the officer why he was being "such an (expletive)," and eventually, the officer told Naanee that he was under arrest. When Naanee resisted, the officer used pepper spray on him, but the wide receiver continued to resist.

Eventually, Naanee, who was said to have a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about his breath or person," was handcuffed, at which point he said, "Do you know who I am? I am an NFL player and I’m going to sue your ass."

Two men then approached the officer, and one of them, presumably his agent, asked the officer to release Naanee. "One gentleman told me I was going to ruin his career," the policeman said.

The Chargers released the following statement about the incident:

"We’re disappointed to hear about the issue involving Legedu. We’ll monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."

According to the Tribune, it is unlikely that Naanee will be back in San Diego. Naanee had 371 yards receiving in 2010.
