Marco Sturm Not Making Return to Boston, Claimed Off Waivers by Capitals

Marco Sturm has always been known for his impressive speed on the ice. This season, however, he's becoming known for the speed with which he's passing from team-to-team.

Katie Carrera of the Washington Post is reporting that the Capitals have claimed former Bruin left winger off waivers. Sturm began the season in Boston, but was dealt to Los Angeles for future considerations before the trade deadline, in order to clear cap room necessary for the Tomas Kaberle trade.

The Kings subsequently placed Sturm on waivers, sparking rumors that the speedster may return to the Hub. However this was not to be.

Sturm, 32, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2010-11 season and will earn $3.5 million this season.

Sturm played in just 17 games with the Kings (9 points, 5 goals), missing time with a knee injury.

Carrera suggests that Sturm will likely be the second third-line wing, allowing the Capitals more flexibility in their line combinations.

According to Capgeek, Sturm's salary cap hit with the Capitals is projected to be $827,957.
