There's now another interesting name on the Celtics' radar as the buyout frenzy continues.
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Knicks are getting close to buying out the contract of forward Corey Brewer. The Knicks received Brewer as part of part of the three-team blockbuster trade that also landed New York both Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups.
According to Stein, the Celtics are among the teams who have already shown immediate interest in the 24-year-old out of Florida. In addition to the C's, San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Dallas are also showing interest.
Brewer had modest numbers (8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds per game) in just over 24 minutes per contest in Minnesota, but what may make him most attractive to contenders is his defense. At 6-foot-9, Brewer plays strong defense at both the shooting guard and small forward positions.
For a team like the Celtics, he could be a valuable asset as a player who could come off the bench to spell both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, and to also guard Eastern Conference stars like Anthony and LeBron James.
