Report: Red Sox Interested in Pitcher Chad Durbin for Rotation Depth

Red Sox spring training is well underway, but there may still be a few moves made before the regular season kicks in.

According to Peter Gammons, the Red Sox have expressed interest in veteran pitcher Chad Durbin, a right-hander that has seen time in the starting rotation and in the bullpen throughout his 11-year career. Durbin has spent the past three seasons with the Phillies.

The Sox have reportedly made an offer to Durbin, and according to Gammons' earlier tweet, the pitcher was "intrigued" by the Boston offer.

Gammons expanded upon the potential deal during Red Sox Live, and despite Durbin's interest in reprising a starting role, the righty will likely head back to Philadelphia.

"They actually did make an offer to Chad Durbin in the last couple of days to come in as the sixth starter," Gammons said. "But he'll probably go back to the Phillies."

The Rays and the Rangers have also expressed interest in the versatile pitcher, who posted a 4-1 record with a 3.80 ERA through 64 outings last season.

Durbin was granted free agency on Nov. 1.
